    Professor Simson's concentrations through his M.A. and PhD. history studies include the following areas: World History and World Systems; Antiquity--Greco-Roman History; American Political Tradition and American Labor History as well as American Colonial and U.S Southern History. His dissertation work concerns progressive management relations with organized labor and the maintenance of an industrial peace in the East Tennessee Copper Basin through the two world wars.

    You can find his study, Removing Reds from the Old Red Scar online. He has been published in the Journal of Appalachian Studies (Fall 2001) and The Journal of East Tennessee History (Spring 2012). Special training by the University of Hawaii's East-West Center has allowed Dr. Simson to promote  infusing Asian Studies into the College's undergraduate curriculum. Professor Simson has been active in promoting student understanding of environmental sustainability and the significance of mountain industrial regions through his advising of the Dunwoody Outdoor Adventure Club.  He is an avid hiker, gardener, online and face-to-face instructor and advisor and sings with the Atlanta choral group Our Song.
