Description of Activity Reports
ACTIVITY REPORT: Remember, you have 3 choices for the Activity Report, only choose 1 activity for this
assignment. (1) If you decide to go to
the Carlos Museum at Emory, my most recommended choice, just jot down some
notes while at the museum on 2 sections (geographically or historical sections,
ex. ancient Egypt, Africa, ancient Peru, Costa Rica, etc.) then go home and
type up your notes formally. Include some of your own impressions or
interpretations of artifacts as well.
This report should easily fill up a 2 to 3 page report (3 max). (2) You can also choose the
Mini-Ethnography - there is a set of questions for you under the "Mini-Ethnography
Questions" link in my Homepage or in iCollege
(on-line students). In your report state the question followed by their
response, doing the best you can to record their comments accurately,
paraphrasing (abbreviating their comments) may be necessary. With only a couple
of exceptions, don't let them get away with 1 word or
short answers, pull out more information. A good follow up question is always
"How so?", or "Can you elaborate". Rap up your report with
1 long paragraph explaining how you thought the interview went and your take on
their responses. This should be no more than 2 to 3 pages double-spaced,
max. (3) Lastly, you could choose to visit the Atlanta Zoo. You'll need to read the first 9 pages of
Chapter 4 first and then take some notes on primate behavior
(Chimps/orangutans/gorillas) to help you as you observe them. One or two things
you learned from Ch. 4 should be reflected in your paper. You'll need to hang out with the primates at
the zoo at least 45 minutes to get some good observations of their activities
and interactions to each other. Summarize in a 2-3 page paper (3 max) what you
learned from both the textbook and your visit.
These are 12pt.-type/double-spaced
papers. Online students will send or
attach this report through a special “Activities” link in iCollege titled
"Activity Report" by the due date.
Face-to-face classes will turn them into me in class on the due date.
