| In a rural farming community one year, the
winter season had begun in earnest. The wife had asked her husband to go with her to
Christmas eve services, but the husband had replied that he really did not believe. He
just could not understand why God would give his only Son for us. So his wife left to go to church. The man started on some chores and noticed through the blowing snow some sparrows struggling to keep warm in the barren bushes. He opened his barn and prepared a warm place for them but they would not fly in. He made a trail of seed into the barn but they would not fly in. Anguishing for them he thought "If only I were a sparrow, then I could fly to them and show them the way. " And then he understood. The church bells were ringing as he left to join his wife at the Christmas Eve service. |
