| This is the day that we
remember, with thanksgiving, all our many blessings. I think that I can speak to
those of you that have had great loss this year as, I, too, have had great loss as well.
One does not lose one's spouse without a great feeling of loss and despair. Still, I am joyful this thanksgiving because I have had the opportunity to appreciate what a wonderful wealth of love that I have in my dear friends. You see, life is about relationships. And the most important are our relationship to God and family and friends. It is not about what someone else did but what we can do for someone else. I am reminded of the Gospel reading: "...Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.' "Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or need clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.' |

| Thanksgiving
is a time to remember all our blessings. We have so many things for which we should give
thanks. Let me help you: You are alive. That means you can change anything in your life. You have food to eat. That means that you can survive to make changes. You are loved by at least one person. That means that you can find the courage to change. You live in a country that encourages accomplishment. That means that you can get help to accomplish anything. But you must be willing to accept help and to change also. Change is the one certainty. It is one thing that keeps me going. I know that I am not the best that I can be, but with God's help and yours, I can become the very best that I was meant to be and so can you. Count your blessings. |
