The Abstract Sequential Learning Style
Abstract sequential learners work best when they
- have reading references and expert sources.
"I want to check things out for myself."
- are sure of themselves.
"I want lots of research to back up my argument."
- follow traditional procedures.
"I need to work on my ideas, not discover a new way of presenting them."
- have time to learn material thoroughly.
"There is so much information to read. How can you do it without time?"
- can work alone.
"I like to do my work systematically, by myself."
- are respected for intellectual ability.
"I value other's regard for me as an intelligent person."
- ask, "Why is this?"
- write analytical essays.
"I'd much rather have one long essay to write for a whole period test than do a true/false test."Note: You know this will not happen in a math class!
- rely on lecture notes and written materials.
"You can study best from good notes."
- do library research.
"It's interesting to dig around in books."
Take a few moments and reflect on what phrases you have heard (by friends, relatives, teachers, etc.), or what comments you have made yourself, that show how you are a Abstract Sequential type thinker/learner.
