“Comparison shopping for a computer”: Help!

I’ve been working on this assignment for several hours now, trying to make sense of the various advertisements on the Web.  Well, I got frustrated with that and decided to go ahead and, at least, try to format the comparison table on Excel.  I am so incredibly lost.  Anyone, please, help!  Is it simpler to use Word and the “insert table” option?  I fooled around with that for 30 minutes, gave up.  By the time I opened up Excel and tried to format just a simple 4 column, 27 rows, no-math-needed-here-type-of-table, I’d smoked about a half a pack of cigarettes and not gotten anywhere.  That cartoon paper clip guy is really starting to get on my nerves. S.O.S. I’m goin’ nuts here!

Oh, and btw, can anyone explain to me what “cache memory” is?  I haven’t seen that referenced anywhere in these ads.

IMO, the choice between using a Word table or Excel comes down to personal familiarity. I’m more comfortable in Word, so that would be my first choice. But if you’re not familiar with it, it can be a pain in either program.

To find out about cache memory, try going to ask.com and typing in the question, “What is cache memory?” Google and Ask.com are my spare brain. ;-) I haven’t seen it specified in ads either, but most companies will answer questions on the phone (so far, anyway).

Thanks Danni, I guess I should of thought to search Google, duh. I’m still totally lost on Word and Excel though. I’m more familiar with Word, so I suppose I’ll try that again. Should I “insert table” or “draw table”? It seems like the insert would be easier, but I can’t find an option for adjusting the width of both rows and columns.

I’d use “insert table”, choose the number of columns and rows and let it auto adjust the size for you. If you end up needing to add rows at the bottom of the table, another row will appear if you click “enter” in the last cell of the table. At least, that’s what it does for me; don’t know if it’s set that way or something, but I generally use the default options and only specify the number of rows and cells. I’ve used it alot but I’m no guru.

Also, re: your original question abt. cache memory — I am seeing that specified in ads on tigerdirect.com. Don’t know if it’s in all of them though.
