Linear Algebra

Should I take Linear Algebra if I desire to transfer to eventually transfer to tech?

also, according to perimeter foreign language is required to transfer, is this true (some teachers and students have said otherwise)?

If you are planning to transfer to Tech, absolutely take Linear Algebra. At Tech they put Linear & Calc II into the same course, so you won't get full credit if you just transfer Calc II.

I'll have to check on the foreign language issue -- that's the first I've heard of it.

Son of a gun, they DO specifically want foreign language for Area B instead of something else. Okay, let me dig into this a bit further and just make sure.

Does this requirement apply to Engineering students aspiring to transfer to the Gold and Black? Why don't advising and counseling (ha-ha, yea right) inform potential transfers of this requirement? I would hate to miss taking a GREAT facilitator at GPC, only to take a harda** at the Gold and Black. We have excellent, more than capable math professor(s) (A. Lu) here.

The Advising and Counseling staff don't know much at all about specific academic requirements at any transfer institution, it seems. That's why they'll always send you to a faculty member for major-specific advisement, expecting that we know all those little ins and outs. Never mind that we can't always get the needed information either!

Frankly, if it were me and I was planning to transfer to Ga Tech, I'd be taking everything I could here where you have a much smaller class, a professor who is dedicated to teaching rather than research (and thus resents the two hours a week he spends in front of 300 students in a large lecture hall), and are not shunted off on teaching assistants who barely speak English and are responsible for all the mundane grunt work of some professor's course load.

But that's just my opinion!

Georgia Tech does requires a Foreign Language to be taken, and at least, two semesters of the same foreign language. If you check the TAG
for GT, it gives you a pretty good idea of what you should (and pretty much, need) to have when transferring.

Imho, try and take as many of the core classes as you can (especially the Calculus, and Physics classes; these are the worst at GT, and are currently the most commonly failed classes) at GPC.

I have no problems with either phys or calc, and get A's in both. i HATE languages so i'll quadruple^2 check with GPC admins and GT admins

Trust me, you want to take both Phys and Calc at GPC. I've personally seen what Calculus is like at GT, and it is horrible. Plus, once you take Calc/Phys at GT and if you end up failing/not making the grade you want, you will be forced to take the class again at GT.

Basically, any class you take at GT and don't make the grade you want, you are stuck taking that class at GT. In my opinion, you are better off taking Phys and Calc but don't let me deter you from taking it at GT.

Just to give you an idea: My friend took Calc 1 at GT with one of the hardest teachers (Evans), and he came out of high school with all sorts of AP/Honors classes and a 4.0 GPA. He ended up making a D in that class, and the class passing percentage was only 20%. He then retook Calc 1 again the next semester (cant remember the grade), and again in the Summer (B). Summer was a bit worse because they ended up changing the teacher midway, and the teachers first and only test screwed everyone. the class average for that was around a 30.

So, with this in mind, good luck with whatever you decide to do.
