Windows 7 is definitely going in the right direction with it's improvements. If you're willing to experiment, try one of the linux distros. Personally, theyre not for me.
Actually, i disagree. I installed Windows 7 in a VMware window, and let me simply say this: It is Windows Vista with a new name, a new taskbar, and a somewhat W3C compliant Internet Explorer. With that being said, i went to install Firefox, and the thing bluescreen'd on me. Yes, i realize this is a beta, and that it is going to be buggy, but i have never had an OS crash when trying to install a simple browser. In any case, with the Alienware thing, i'd definately recommend Ubuntu Linux (i'm sure Ms. Benson or John will get you a copy of the CD). If you dont want to wait, just go to
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download and when it gets done burning, use a Burning program (i like Alcohol 120%) to burn the ISO (.iso file) to a CD, and off you go! Just boot from the CD, and it should allow you to start Ubuntu Linux without installing it.
