Netbooks

Hey folks,
Any advice on netbooks? I am looking at HP's, they seem to have the best price (around $250) and they have the somewhat standard 1G ram and 160G HD. Cut me some slack, I am computer literate, I just started looking at netbooks so I'm looking for some feedback before I purchase.

John and Ms. Benson have Asus EEEPcs, and i have actually used an EEEPc as a temporary solution; so, the EEEPc seems like a solid choice.

I seen an Acer at staples for $329 that had an 11.1" monitor and 250G HD.

I'd assume the Asus price is similar, if not lower then the HP.

Don't forget that with a netbook weight is a key factor. The bigger the machine the more it's going to weigh. A 10" screen is quite usable for basic everyday computing.

I do have an Asus eeePC and am quite happy with it. I did sacrifice storage for durability, though, going for the 40GB SSD instead of the 160GB standard HDD. That's because I haul it around everywhere and I'm a klutz. I can always add storage via flash cards & drives. I also removed the standard OS install & replaced it with Ubuntu Netbook Remix because I detested the Xandros install & wouldn't want to use a netbook with Windows XP, much less Windows Vista.

I do use a netbook it is the asus EEE Pc model 901 with 1 gig of ram the intel atom processor, 20 gigs of solid state hard drive (crash and impact proof for durability and lower power consumption) it gets between 4 and 6 hours of battery life it weighs in about 2 pounds w/ battery and it running the factory standard xandros linux operating system it has considderable abbilities via wifi internet and is great for school use

my sugestion is that you get a net book with the solid state drive (SSD) so that you can carry it arround without worrying about loosing data or having to shut it down all the time

mine has the 8.9 inch screen which is great for web browsing and writing papaers but its not something i would want to use as my ONLY computer

the keyboard is rather small so if you have somewhat fat fingers or imprecise typing go for the larger machine or else you will spend half your time correcting typos

i have found however that my netbook is best suited to comunications and productivity work(document creation and reading) it is definatily not suited for gaming

and once you rip your movies onto a flash drive or an SD memory chip its pretty good for watching movies and listening to music on long trips on public transit and such

out of all of them i prefer the dell mini and the asus eee pc's
